The Executive Manager, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Safety is a key leadership role within the Office of the Commissioner, which focuses on leading the development and implementation of strategies programs and initiatives that embed cultural safety and address health equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The role champions and promotes the QAS’s commitment to developing a more culturally respectful and responsive workforce through education and professional development.

The role partners with internal and external stakeholders to embed cultural safety and deliver sustainable health outcomes.

We are seeking applicants who, within the context of the role responsibilities, possess the following key attributes:

  • Expert knowledge and understanding of cultural safety and health equity and education and employment pathways related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people from culturally diverse backgrounds within a healthcare service delivery environment.
  • Proven high level ability to build and maintain productive working relationships and partnerships and work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders, to achieve outcomes and drive change.
  • Superior skills in program management, including the ability to set a clear strategic direction, articulate priorities, work under pressure, achieve deadlines and successfully manage multiple large-scale programs of work in an environment of competing priorities and limited resources.
  • Experience leading a team of geographically dispersed staff, providing strategic direction, coaching, development to drive health equity and cultural safety.

The following mandatory requirements, special conditions and/or other requirements apply to this role:

  • Applicants must have a minimum of an Associate Diploma of Applied Science (Ambulance) and certification to practice as a Paramedic in Queensland; OR a Certificate III in Ambulance Communications - Call Taking and a Certificate IV in Ambulance Communications - Dispatch and certification to practice as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher in Queensland; OR a Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport and certification to practice as a Patient Transport Officer in Queensland; or equivalent qualifications, as deemed appropriate by the Commissioner QAS.
  • It is an express condition of employment for all people who are to perform roles with direct patient contact to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following infectious diseases during their employment: Diphtheria; Tetanus; Pertussis (Whooping Cough); Hepatitis B; Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR); Varicella (Chickenpox); Influenza. Please note, there may be additional vaccination requirements depending on individual circumstances as specified in the QAS Infection Control Framework.
  • Whilst not mandatory, the possession of relevant tertiary or postgraduate qualifications in disciplines such as human resource management, employment relations or industrial law, along with relevant experience will be highly regarded.
  • The incumbent may be required to travel on official business.
