Are you ready to make a real difference using data and technology? As a Data Scientist (AO6) in Queensland Treasury's Strategic Information Branch (SIB), you'll work with cutting-edge analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to solve complex challenges that shape Queensland's policies, programs, and initiatives. This is your chance to be part of a dynamic, forward-thinking team that transforms complex data into actionable insights, enabling evidence-based decision-making across government.

From strategy and design through to implementation, you'll play a key role in delivering innovative, high-impact solutions that align with the Queensland Government's priorities. If you're passionate about data science and want to grow your career while contributing to meaningful change, we'd love to hear from you.

In this role, you will:

  • Analyse and interpret complex datasets to deliver actionable insights.
  • Develop and maintain intuitive data visualisations and dashboards for stakeholders.
  • Design and implement AI-driven solutions to solve real-world challenges.
  • Enhance data pipelines and workflows for efficient data processing and analysis.
  • Provide expert advice on data science and analytics to support decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy, and ethical standards.

What experience you will bring:

  • Expertise in collecting, analysing, and reporting complex datasets using tools like SQL, Power BI, or similar, to deliver high-quality insights under tight timeframes.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, with experience leveraging cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure or AWS for data science, analytics, visualisation, and AI-driven solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning techniques to develop innovative, data-driven outcomes that address real-world challenges.
  • Strong understanding (or ability to quickly acquire) of Treasury operations, including fiscal, economic, and statistical models, to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Exceptional communication skills to simplify complex data and deliver compelling narratives tailored to diverse audiences, alongside the ability to work in an agile manner within a dynamic environment.

There are no mandatory qualifications needed for this role, however, relevant qualifications in data science, computer science, information systems, information technology, engineering or a related field are highly regarded.
