About the Role
The Chief People Officer (CPO) leads and manages the People, Culture and Capability (PCC) team to deliver services to Legal Aid Queensland (LAQ). The CPO works collaboratively with stakeholders to develop and implement a range of workforce projects and initiatives aligned with LAQ's strategic objectives.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Lead the development and implementation of the Strategic Workforce Plan and Workforce Action Plan to achieve organisation-wide results.
- Provide strategic advice to the LAQ Board, Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Senior Leaders Group (SLG), First Nations Advisory Committee, other LAQ governance committees, as well as leaders and managers.
- Sponsor, develop and deliver initiatives and services that support LAQ's business and flexibly respond to emerging business priorities.
- Drive improved organisational capability, performance and continuous improvement through integrated PCC programs and services, ensuring solutions and policies are innovative and progressive.
- Provide leadership to PCC ensuring:
- management of the team's operations, budget, full-time equivalents, work allocation and resources, and the delivery of work and projects on time and on budget
- a client-centric and solutions-oriented culture, focused on continuous improvement, innovation and knowledge sharing
- staff have the capabilities and motivation to effectively deliver on their accountabilities, and
- ongoing coaching and guidance of staff to promote continual development, as well as skills transfer and performance management.
- Support and influence ELT in setting organisational direction to deliver on government and LAQ strategic priorities.
- As a member of the Corporate Services Leadership Team, contribute to shaping the culture and the operations of the Corporate Services Division.
- Develop and maintain strong and constructive networks and relationships with key stakeholders.
- Prepare briefing notes and reports to the LAQ Board, ELT and the SLG.
- Lead the development and consultation on PCC policies and procedures and approve procedures and other resources.
- Chair LAQ's Agency Consultative Committee, a key consultative committee for LAQ, with the Together Union.

- You have formulated and executed workforce strategies and plans with measurable results, creating a positive workplace culture where safety, wellbeing, flexibility, inclusivity and development are prioritised.
- You have the knowledge and expertise to lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver diverse People, Culture and Capability functions in a changing public sector environment, providing authoritative advice on people matters.
- You engage effectively with executive leaders and key stakeholders to advance organisation-wide initiatives, negotiate strategic outcomes, and resolve complex and sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
