The Role
In this pivotal role, you will oversee the management of water and riverine authorisations and rights under the Water Act 2000, ensuring the responsible and equitable use of one of our most precious resources. This position is responsible for managing projects across the region, incorporating the delivery of unallocated water releases and advice and options for access to water for town water supplies and major projects and sustainable water management through the implementation of water sharing rules, water availability and implementation of the 10 water plans across South Region.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary and geographically dispersed workforce comprised of four separate teams to deliver Water Act entitlement and authority dealings, water management functions within South Region and projects to support communities within the Great Artesian Basin and across the department's four potential dam land sites.
• Lead a high performing, safe and financially responsible workforce that demonstrates the values of the Public Service and the principles of the department.
• Provide expert advice to stakeholders, community and industry on water sharing rules, access to water and requirements under each water plan.
• Decide and implement decisions on water availability to manage the resource but also provide economic opportunities for regional Queensland.
• Manage an unallocated water release program for the region that ensures targeted releases of water are provided to the community that stimulate economic development and regional opportunities.
• Provide expert advice on the development of legislation and policies.
• Prepare complex briefings and submissions for the Minister, DG and other senior government officials and stakeholders providing timely and accurate advice on complex issues.
About You
• There are no mandatory requirements for this role however previous experience in an administrative decision-making role, and a manual driver's licence would be highly regarded.
• Travel away from the centre may be required. This may involve travel outside of normal office hours and/or overnight accommodation for extended periods. This could also involve work in other regions.
• Brisbane location preferred, however other South Region locations will be considered
