The Principal Adviser oversees the governance processes for psychological and counselling services and interventions in correctional centres and regions including in relation to vulnerable prisoners and those identified as being at risk of suicide or self-harm.

The most suitable applicant will demonstrate their applied knowledge, skills and experiences against these essential role requirements of the Individual contributor leadership stream:
- Experience working within a criminal justice environment, particularly within either a custodial or community-based correctional environment
- Detailed and current knowledge of Government and Agency directions, objectives, policies and procedures, as well as a sound knowledge of relevant legislative and statutory requirements, particularly within offender management frameworks
- Supports strategic direction through understanding, supporting and promoting QCS's vision and objectives.
- A working knowledge of the assessment, management and treatment of offenders considered high harm/complex needs which may include those who have engaged in, or may engage in violent, sexual, extremist or fixated related offending
- Research and analytical skills for investigating issues and analysing and reporting on trends associated with offender management and continued business frameworks and practices
- Interpersonal skills for effective negotiations with internal and external decision makers and key stakeholders, who often have competing interests, on sensitive and complex issues
- Organisational skills with the ability to set priorities, coordinate activities and meet deadlines in a complex and changeable environment
- Displays personal drive and integrity, challenging issues constructively and self evaluating
- Communicates clearly and with influence, anticipating stakeholder needs and negotiates confidently
