The Legal Services Commission is seeking an exceptional lawyer to lead our litigation team as the Director Litigation. The role presents an opportunity to contribute to important work of the Commission and be instrumental in the outcomes of the regulation of Queensland’s legal profession. Responsible for directing external engagement and internal performance of the litigation team, the Director is someone who will have extensive experience in litigation and providing senior level, strategic legal, policy and performance delivery, and be an exceptional peoples’ leader.

The Director Litigation at the Commission is responsible for leading a team that is central to the performance of the Commissioner's functions under the Legal Profession Act 2007, in directing external engagement and internal performance of the litigation team.
As the Director Litigation, you will:
- provide expert legal advice on the Commissioner's functions, statutory responsibilities and service deliverables
- lead and effectively manage the Commission's litigation team
- prepare, instruct and appear in discipline applications, prosecution of summary offences, injunction applications and other enforcement action, conferences and hearings before disciplinary bodies, the courts and other agencies, which at times may including briefing and instructing counsel from the private bar, while adhering to model litigant principles
- advise, mentor, support and provide leadership to staff of the Commission and actively participate in fostering a team environment and positive culture, and understand/value the contributions individual roles play in the success of business outcomes
- review, develop and, where necessary, drive complex legislative and policy change designed to enhance the Commission's undertaking of its statutory obligations and regulatory functions
- proactively monitor and, where appropriate, improve policies, procedures, work practice and management systems to enable the Commission to continually improve effective and efficient standards of service
- advise, mentor, and support the team by actively fostering a team operating environment built on a good work ethic, interactive, consistent work practice, and quality results
- be admitted as an Australian lawyer and be eligible to obtain a practising certificate in Queensland
- abide by the Australian Solicitor Conduct Rules (as amended from time to time) and display high standards of professional ethical conduct at all times, in addition to any other professional obligations
- be responsible for a number of statutory delegations on behalf of the Commissioner from time to time
- be required to travel and stay away from home overnight within Queensland to attend Court or Tribunal hearings. A current driver licence is required for travelling to appearances at Court or Tribunal hearings outside the Brisbane CBD.
As a member of the Commission's senior leadership team you will:
- provide leadership and appropriate management of the Commission's resources to ensure its statutory powers, obligations, and functions under the Act are appropriately applied
- provide oversight of the Commission's strategic and litigation performance
- provide professional representation of the Commissioner at external forums and meetings.
