The QAS Emergency Management Unit (EMU) delivers statewide policies and plans, regional support, deployable resources, and training courses that maintain and strengthen the QAS response to operational escalation periods, major incidents, natural disasters, and significant complex scheduled and unscheduled events.
The Senior Policy Officer, EMU reports to the Executive Manager, EMU and is responsible for the provision of high quality, accurate and timely emergency management related policy, correspondence and advice. Senior Policy Officer assists in the delivery of accurate and efficient reports, correspondence, and documentation related to emergency management, ensuring accordance to departmental style guides, administrative standards and relevant legislation.

We are seeking applicants who, within the context of the role responsibilities, possess the following key attributes:
- High level knowledge or experience in policy development in relation to emergency management.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, implement, and review emergency management policies, procedures, and other documentation to support effective decision making, manage risk and promote contemporary practices.
- Demonstrated experience in providing high level advice and interpretations of policy, legislation and best practice frameworks relating to emergency management policy and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to build productive relationships and to liaise, advise and negotiate effectively with key internal and external stakeholders (including senior executives), to achieve expected organisational outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with influence, both verbally and through written material, ensuring a professional standard is maintained at all times.
- Well-developed conceptual, problem solving, and analytical skills including the proven ability to analyse and interpret data to identify and escalate issues as required.
The following mandatory requirements, special conditions and/or other requirements apply to this role:
- The incumbent may be required to travel on official business and the possession of a C class driver's licence may be required.
- Whilst not mandatory tertiary qualification/s in emergency management, business or another related discipline will be highly regarded.
