As the Principal Community Recovery Officer, you will be responsible for working with local councils and coordinating and supporting local activities with key partner agencies in the preparation for, response to and recovery following an activation of a disaster event, incident, or crisis within your own area and in support of other areas across Queensland.

Your responsibilities

As a Principal Community Recovery Officer, you will:

  • Leading the development and implementation of community recovery strategic and operational (event specific) plans.
  • Leading and collaborating on the development and maintenance of community preparedness and response capability and capacity including:
  • As the department's representative at the local, district and regional level, partner with communities and local services including local council, Queensland and Australian Government departments and non-government organisations to plan and implement human and social recovery and disaster management responses.
  • Providing strategic advice and support to Senior Leaders in the management and delivery of community recovery services in response to disasters, crises, and incidents.
  • Regularly reviewing and modifying established practices, processes, and policies to enhance preparedness and response to disaster events.
  • Critically assessing and analysing disaster events and providing briefings and reports to internal partners and external organisations to inform matters of concern and identifying service gaps in the community and influencing others in the development of continuous improvements in disaster recovery efforts/activities.
  • Contributing to the development and the delivery of an annual work plan of district operational activities working with key disaster management stakeholders.
  • Integrating and coordinating internal business processes relating to human and social recovery activities through effective governance systems and strengthened business practices.

About You

To be considered for this opportunity:

  • Travel is required, and a current open driver's license is essential.
  • A strong understanding of Queensland's disaster management system is required.
  • Candidates should have experience in community building, resilience planning, and disaster recovery.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and relationship-building.
