Join our team as a Marine Park Ranger and play a vital role in managing the Capricorn Coast, encompassing the southern Great Barrier Reef World Heritage
Area.
Working alongside the Ranger in Charge in Gladstone, you’ll assist in delivering annual work programs across marine and island protected estates, including areas such as the Capricorn Bunker Group, Curtis Coast, Keppel Bay, and Swain Reef. Your work will span five focus areas: Pest Management, Fire Management, Estate Management, Visitor Management, and Assets & Safety.

Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks (GBR&MP) Region are excited to share an incredible opportunity for a Ranger to join the team on a temporary basis through to 30th June 2026.
As one of the six regions of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the GBR&MP Region delivers conservation and management activities across land and sea including implementing the Reef Joint Field Management Program.
Marine Park Rangers help care for and protect marine parks on both land and sea. They carry out a range of activities as part of the Reef Joint Field Management Program, including checking the health of the environment, talking with the public, doing on-water compliance patrols, and maintaining facilities such as camping areas and toilets. Marine Park Rangers also work closely with Traditional Owners to respect and maintain cultural values.
We're looking for a proactive, hands-on individual eager to dive in and take on a challenge. This role will help manage the Capricorn Coast and southern Great Barrier Reef, assisting with various tasks across five focus areas: Pest Management, Fire Management, Estate Management, Visitor Management, and Assets & Safety. Our ideal candidate will have strong professional standards and excel both independently and as part of a team.
Role focus:
• Perform park management tasks including plant operation, resource management, infrastructure development, fire and pest control, and project management.
• Assist in developing and implementing annual work programs, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with relevant acts and permits.
• Engage in public contact, conduct park patrols, assist with emergency response procedures, supervise staff and volunteers, and manage administrative duties.
To be considered you must hold the following qualifications:
• an unrestricted manual driver's licence
There are no mandatory qualifications required to undertake this position, however qualifications or capability to rapidly acquire such qualifications as specified below, would be highly regarded:
• Coxswain Grade1 Near Coastal or higher.
• Rescue diver or higher scuba certification.
• Senior First Aid certificate including Advanced Resuscitation
• Statement of attainment in Government Investigations
• Wildfire Suppression and Prescribed Burning Crew Leader or higher
• Unrestricted Agricultural Chemical Distribution Certificate
• Chainsaw operator's accreditation (Level 1 & 2)
• MR or HR Heavy vehicle license
• Operation of specialized equipment such as Side by Side, Tractor, Forklift, Positrack or mini-Excavator
A Coxswain NSCV1 licence is highly desirable in this role but is not a mandatory requirement.
