The Strategic Policy and Legislation Branch forms part of the Policy and Performance Division, which comprises several areas all reporting to the Executive Director. You will lead and manage a range of high-quality corporate services to the Queensland Police Service, including high level advice and support to the Executive Director, Policy and Performance Division and the Commissioner of Police.
The Branch is responsible for delivering timely and objective legislation and policy development for, and on behalf of, the QPS Senior Executive and Minister for Police and Emergency Services.

The purpose of the unit is to:
• Provide policy advice to assist in formulating new polices and developing new QPS legislation.
• Reviewing QPS legislation to ensure it is relevant to contemporary needs.
• Assisting the Minister in discharging parliamentary and ministerial duties.
• Supporting and representing the QPS at Parliamentary Committee hearings relating to Bills
• Provide representation on internal and external committees and working groups to shape policy development and service delivery to achieve the strategic objectives of the QPS and the government.
As part of this role, you will also collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support organisational change and key QPS projects and initiatives.
The core capability requirements for this role are:
• Lead the provision of high level agency strategic services and advice across a broad range of business areas that support strategic goals and business objectives as required which may include:
o strategy and policy development and implementation;
o management of portfolio legislation
o high-level planning related to budgets, performance and reporting;
o corporate governance;
o development of a Portfolio Management Office and major projects framework;
o high level advocacy on high priority issues of strategic significance for the Service and
o development of business cases and other complex submission and documents
• Lead the provision of high-level research and critical analysis to ensure complex submissions and reports to the Executive Leadership Team, Board of Management, the Minister, Cabinet and other key stakeholders are timely and accurate.
• Build, influence and sustain partnerships and networks with key internal and external stakeholders and negotiate outcomes to support the achievement of organisational objectives.
• Oversee responses to ministerial and executive correspondence, provision of feedback on discussion papers and responses to proposed policy or legislation changes impacting on the agency.
• Represent the Service at a senior level as required, including liaising with other agencies on a range of current and future issues.
• Lead, develop and manage project team members providing support and assistance, direction on work priorities, ensuring that the branch is able to leverage existing resources to deliver desired outcomes.

• While there are no mandatory requirements for this role, relevant qualifications or experience in policing, criminology, law or similar criminal justice field or to the specific field of expertise would be highly regarded.
