About the role

At Legal Aid Queensland, you'll join a respected organisation known for championing social justice, accountability, respect, quality, and cost-effectiveness. We're on a mission to create a fairer legal system where everyone can understand and protect their rights.

As part of the Criminal Law Practice, you'll gain hands-on experience representing children and adults charged with criminal offences across all courts in Queensland. From providing vital duty lawyer services to preparing complex cases and appearing in higher courts, every day will bring challenges and opportunities to grow.

About you

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Representing clients in criminal law matters, including bail applications, pleas, summary trials, committal hearings, and higher court mentions.
  • Providing duty lawyer services and legal advice to clients in the Magistrates and Children's Courts, including assisting clients in custody.
  • Advocating for clients, preparing cases, and instructing counsel in all jurisdictions.
  • Helping shape the future of legal aid by supporting law reform, policy initiatives, and service delivery improvements.
