The Executive Director assists the Assistant Director-General to lead, manage and coordinate building related policy areas for the Department of Housing and Public Works and Government. In this role, you will develop and administer building-related legislation; develop state-wide policy and reform programs; research and advise on building industry trends and emerging technology; and work with stakeholders to influence the direction of the building industry.

The role will be pivotal in guiding transformational change, driving government's reform agenda and shaping the future direction of the building industry. The position contributes to the development of major strategic and operational policy initiatives to support the ongoing delivery of effective and efficient services that are aligned with Departmental objectives and whole-of-government priorities.
What you will be doing:
• Provide strategic leadership to Building Policy, demonstrating public service values, encouraging continuous improvement, and supporting the vision of becoming the best public sector in Australia.
• Support the Assistant Director-General, providing strategic advice and leadership on building legislation, codes, policy, and standards.
• Promote and maintain a high-performance, continuous improvement-oriented workplace culture consistent with departmental values.
• Maintain effective monitoring and reporting protocols to ensure service delivery and budgetary performance align with Divisional and whole-of-government priorities.
• Develop and implement innovative strategies and policies that enhance built environment and asset management, aligned with government priorities.
• Identify and lead operational efficiencies and change management initiatives to optimise service delivery and reduce red tape.
• Foster strong relationships and negotiate with Local, State, and Federal Agencies, as well as other key stakeholders, to advance policy development and address state-specific concerns.
• Represent the Department at significant forums to ensure Queensland's interests are addressed.
• Provide high-quality, evidence-based advice and briefing notes to inform decision-making and respond to Ministerial and Departmental correspondence.
• Manage staff performance and development, providing coaching and mentoring to build capability and achieve organisational outcomes.
• Drive workforce initiatives to create a cohesive, performance-oriented culture and identify resource and capability needs for future workforce planning.
• Collaborate with the Senior Management Team to deliver integrated Building Policy services and foster a collaborative, innovative work environment.
