Mental Health Support Officer
Townsville Correctional Complex; Custodial Operations; Statewide Operations; Stuart
In this role you will be responsible for providing a range of welfare and psychosocial support and services that promote the mental health, well-being, and safety of adults accommodated in correctional centres. The Mental Health Support Officer works closely with other Mental Health professionals to support the effective delivery of mental health and well-being assessment and intervention.

- Certificate IV in Mental Health, Allied Health Assistance and/or Disability is desirable.
The primary accountabilities of the Mental Health Support Officer include:
- Triage welfare support requests aimed to improve mental health and wellbeing.
- Work closely and provide support to other health professionals within a multidisciplinary team who deliver mental health treatment, therapeutic activities, and group activities
- Assist in coordination of brief interventions, therapeutic activities and mental health screening.
- Support in the coordination the delivery of disability services and coordination of related activities
- Receive, respond and coordinate responses for service from prisoners and other stakeholders
- Refer individuals for further assessment and interventions and coordinate group based wellbeing programs.
- Work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, provide mentoring and support for less experienced staff, as well as work independently as required.
- Establish key communication processes to coordinate links between the multidisciplinary mental health team and other internal business units to ensure appropriate services and support are provided.
- Establish effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, other government departments and external service providers to support welfare and psychosocial needs of individuals.
- Support the effective functioning of the mental health services team, including coordination, scheduling and reporting as required.
- Monitor service delivery and assist in reporting and data analysis
- Actively participate in supervision and ongoing professional development
- Maintains up to date and accurate records and carry out administrative duties as requested
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of QCS property and information
