Role details

The Acute Care Team at the Mackay Community Health Centre is seeking applications for a Mental Health Clinical Nurse to join their team on a permanent basis.

Your opportunity

  • The position will be based in Mackay as part of the Acute Care Team. The position will provide Intake/triage, assessment and crisis management functions as part of the Mackay Division of Mental Health Acute Care Team. The position will work a varied roster 7 days a week with RDO accrual. The position works all shifts (morning, afternoon and night).
  • The position provides a competent standard of clinical care through the provision of specialist triage/intake, assessment and short-term crisis care services to persons who suffer from a mental disorder within the Mackay Integrated Mental Health Network.
  • The Clinical Nurse provides clinical skills to ensure patient, recovery-focused and evidence-based care, plans and coordinates the clinical management of patient/client care within a multidisciplinary team within the Division of Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (AODS).
  • To provide an evidence-based standard of care by providing individual and holistic care, giving due consideration to the needs of the client, relatives and carers for the assessment, treatment, maintenance and support of people with mental health conditions.
  • Effectively liaise, network and facilitate an integrated approach that is recovery focused, evidence based across the continuum of care.
  • Initiate and actively participate in quality improvement projects that facilitate the review and evaluation of the target service and associated processes.
  • This role will contribute to the planning, development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of a broad range of treatment and prevention activities to promote recovery from mental illness.

About the Team

The Acute Care Team is the first point of contact to public mental health services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Team will undertake triage and may facilitate the referral of the consumer to a more appropriate internal and/or external service such as a community mental health team, an alcohol and drug service or primary health care.
