As Deputy Principal Registrar and Senior Director, Court Operations, you will use your strong leadership skills to lead SDLCS during a time of transformative change focusing on excellence in frontline service delivery and improving access to justice.

You will identify opportunities to improve, streamline and modernise systems and process operating in SDLCS and across courts and tribunals.

You will be entrusted with driving policy and frontline service delivery reforms to ensure SDLCS delivers efficient, effective, accessible, safe and people focused services that are responsive to diverse community needs.

The Courts and Tribunals Division (CAT) is responsible for the administration and operation of the courts within the state and ensures the proper functioning of the justice system by providing frontline services across case management, registry recording and transcription, court referral and support programs, community engagement and other initiatives.

The Supreme, District & Land Courts Service (SDLCS) delivers registry services to the Supreme, District and Land Courts in Brisbane, and works closely with the Magistrates Courts Service for the delivery of Supreme Court and District Court services in regional and remote centres in Queensland.

Reporting directly to the Assistant Director-General and Principal Registrar (ADG), SDLCS you will be responsible for the administrative operational functions required to support the delivery of justice in Queensland's Supreme, District and Land Courts in line with relevant legislation, policies, and delegated authority, ensuring adherence to ethical decision-making principles and standards.

The Deputy Principal Registrar and Senior Director, Court Operations will be responsible for providing operational and strategic leadership of a complex, dispersed frontline service delivery organisation. This includes responsibility for strategic and business planning, managing human, financial and IT resources, managing change, driving performance and continuous improvement and creating a culture of excellence in courts across the state.

You will be working closely with judicial officers and so this position requires an understanding of the concept of judicial independence and the separation of powers, and the unique environment this creates and within which the Courts and Tribunals division (CAT) operates.

You will have statutory duties as Sheriff of Queensland and as Registrar under the Supreme Court of Queensland Act 1991 and the District Court of Queensland Act 1967.

Specifically, you will:

  • Exercise powers and functions conferred by legislation.
  • Deliver public value through championing and leading court operations to drive strategic, cultural and system change in alignment with government priorities, departmental objectives and stakeholder, including community and court user, expectations.
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve and cultivate excellence in criminal, civil, children and other jurisdictions within court operations.
  • Lead strategic and operational planning and practices (including finance and human resources).
  • Create and maintain a cohesive, high performing court operations team, creating strong working relationships, empowering and coaching others, encouraging a multidisciplinary team approach and leadership that supports a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Foster, manage and maintain collaborative working relationships with judicial officers (particularly Heads of Jurisdiction), partner agencies, court staff, community organisations, service providers and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective court services.
  • Actively participate as a member of senior leadership teams to help shape and drive the strategic direction of CAT.
  • Provide strategic advice to the ADG SDLC and the broader CAT leadership team.
  • Prepare submissions, briefs, memorandums and briefing notes and provide high level advice and support for the Attorney-General, Director-General and Deputy Director-General, CAT as required.
  • Represent CAT and the interests of the Attorney-General on senior level working groups, steering committees and forums and when consulted on issues relevant to SDLCS.
