South Monitoring Compliance and Projects; South Region; Water Resource Management; Flexible within South Region
The Manager, Compliance is responsible for leading a regional team to deliver all compliance related functions under the Queensland Water Act 2000, Commonwealth Water Act 2007 and Planning Act 2016 in South Region. This includes pro-active and re-active compliance activities and actions across South Region. You will be required to work collaboratively across the State, leading south region input for development of the Water Resource Management Annual Compliance Plan, key projects and initiatives to ensure water is sustainably managed. You will be required to implement our department’s regulatory strategy in South Region and use a range of regulatory approaches from education to enforcement to resolve problems and deliver outcomes. It will include working closely with the Commonwealth, including the Inspector General of Water Compliance responding to audits and compliance requirements.

Key Duties & Accountabilities:
• Lead a regional team to deliver compliance related functions under the relevant legislation within South Region.
• Work collaboratively to ensure consistent and effective delivery of the department's regulatory strategy and meeting our regulatory responsibilities.
• Support key state-wide projects and initiatives that build the department's capability as a best practice regulator.
• Responsible for all pro-active and re-active compliance issues, drawing on a range of data sources and intelligence.
• Ensure a risk-based approach to solving compliance issues is adopted. This might include undertaking targeted compliance activities, issue Infringement Notices and Statutory Notices, as well as undertaking engagement or education with key stakeholders to ensure they are aware of their legislative obligations.
• Plan for and ensure a coordinated and targeted compliance program for the region is delivered which identifies and prioritises high risk matters and is aligned to the state-wide compliance plan and regulatory strategy.
• Respond to any Commonwealth audits and compliance requirements from the Inspector General of Water Compliance in the Murray Darling Basin.
• Manage a high performing team to ensure consistent, accountable, and timely delivery of compliance priorities and actions.
About You:
You are a strategic and innovative leader with extensive knowledge of water legislation and policy frameworks, backed by hands-on experience in water management and regulation. Highly organised and results-driven, you bring strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire others while fostering inclusive and healthy workplaces. You hold (or can obtain) Authorised Officer status under the Water Act 2000 and possess a high level of financial acumen, HR process expertise and proficiency in information system reporting. With exceptional emotional intelligence, you excel at building enduring relationships, driving accountability, and delivering outcomes. You thrive on stimulating ideas, encouraging innovation, and developing future leaders, all while ensuring tasks are actioned efficiently and accurately. A current “C Class” driver's licence is desirable.
