Correctional Supervisor

Southern Queensland Correctional Centre (SQCC) is located in Spring Creek, approximately 17 kms from the township of Gatton in the Lockyer Valley. The centre provides high security secure placement accommodation for sentenced and remand women that are classified as high or low security. Women who enter the criminal justice system often come from lives characterised by sexual, emotional and physical abuse, domestic and family violence, substance addiction and mental health problems.
QCS provides a gender-responsive, trauma-informed approach to managing women with the goal of offering an opportunity to truly rehabilitate and escape the cycle that led to crime. It is important to recognise that to change a woman is to change a generation.

In this role you will manage offenders, and coordinate and monitor the operations of a correctional team.
The primary accountabilities of the Correctional Supervisor include:
• Manage a team of correctional officers and provide leadership to ensure the provision of services to offenders.
• Ensure day to day operations occur in accordance with relevant legislative requirements.
• Contribute to the development of effective teams.
• Monitor performance and standards of service delivery for staff under your supervision.
• Ensure the security and effective management and supervision of offenders in accordance with operating procedures and Agency procedures.
• Contribute to the provision of a safe environment for staff, visitors and offenders.
• Maintain an effective system of static and dynamic security in the area, including ensuring the ongoing operation and periodic evaluation of all surveillance equipment and infrastructure.
• Assume responsibility for the centre's operation outside of business hours.
• Participate as an effective team member in the development and implementation of the centre's operational plans.
• Participate in and contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of case and sentence management for offenders.
The role description provides the minimum requirements for the role. The incumbent may be required to undertake other duties as required outside of these primary accountabilities.
Mandatory requirements
The following mandatory requirements apply to this role:
• Must already be an accredited Custodial Correctional Officer and possess a current Certificate III in Correctional Practices.
• Certificate IV in Correctional Practice is a prerequisite for appointment to the role of Correctional Supervisor.
Other conditions and requirements
There may be instances where the incumbent will be required to work hours outside the normal work hours, undertake travel to other locations, or temporarily work from an alternate location.
