The Civil Law Legal Aid Scheme (CLLAS) is funded by the Public Trustee of Queensland and administered by Legal Aid Queensland for civil law matters to be heard in a Queensland court or a tribunal where there is the power to award costs. The Civil Law Legal Aid Scheme provides assistance with outlays associated with civil claims approved under the schemes' guidelines. As the coordinator, you are the primary representative at Legal Aid Queensland for the scheme. The role offers independence and flexibility.

The successful candidate will play an integral role in the following:
- Analyse, assess and process initial applications and extensions in accordance with relevant guidelines and provide recommendations to the Public Trustee of Queensland regarding a client's eligibility to receive a grant for civil claim costs.
- Supervise an administration officer and support the management functions of the Director Practice Management including, monitor and provide feedback, coach, coordinate work and leave, participate in recruitment, and support their safety and wellbeing.
- Undertake file management activities including creating, maintaining and archiving files.
- Assess and authorise accounts submitted by private practitioners, pay invoices, impose refunds owing on successful claims and write off funds that cannot be recovered.
- Manage the scheme's panel of approved firms including processing requests for placement on the panel, maintaining records and providing recommendations to remove a firm from the panel.
- Act as a direct contact for Legal Aid Queensland staff, legal practitioners and clients, responding to enquiries and provide information about CLLAS guidelines.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to external legal professionals and other stakeholders to increase awareness of the scheme.
- Prepare comprehensive submissions including drafting responses to Ministerial enquires in relation to requests for aid.
- Prepare reports including annual reports, quarterly reports and the annual business plan in regards to the scheme.
- Maintain the CLLAS guidelines and information presented on the website and in information brochures.
- Coordinate meetings and provide secretarial support to the scheme's advisory committee.
- Actively participate in team planning, service improvement initiatives and project activities as required.
About You:
- You can analyse, comprehend, interpret and apply legislation, procedures and guidelines to make sound administrative decisions and have knowledge of legal practices and process, particularly in relation to civil procedures, personal injury/negligence and related legislation.
- You have administrative skills including record keeping, following processes and can contribute to the professional development of others by giving and receiving clear guidance, and through constructive feedback, training and coaching.
- You can communicate in a clear, succinct and accurate manner including preparing reports and submissions and engage effectively with stakeholders and clients with complex needs.
