We're looking for a talented and passionate Director, to lead a business unit developing an Environmental Stewardship framework for Queensland. This role sits within the Landscapes, Water and Natural Capital branch. The role involves coordinating, delivering and integrating relevant programs delivered by the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation and other Queensland Government departments to ensure they are accessible and effective.

You'll be at the forefront of driving outcomes to support Queensland farmers and other landholders to be environmental stewards of their land.

As the Director Environmental Stewardship, you will:
• Lead people and allocate resources to effectively accomplish the work goals and review performance to ensure productivity, goal achievement, high quality standards and overall effectiveness.
• Lead coordination and integration of the department's environmental stewardship programs, analysing program delivery challenges and supporting the design and delivery of solutions.
• Apply superior, effective, strategic and agile management techniques to develop and oversee the detailed work program, successfully resource and operationalise the team and unify multiple streams of work through to successful implementation.
• Oversee and prepare complex papers and correspondence for Cabinet, the Minister, the Director-General and others on complex natural resource and environmental management issues.
• Provide expert strategic advice and support to the Executive Director, Deputy Director-General, Director-General, the Minister and government staff in and external to the agency on significant projects and programs.
• Lead and / or monitor significant projects to ensure state interests are met and project outcomes are delivered on time.
• Liaise, consult and conduct significant negotiations with a broad range of stakeholders within and external to state government including Australian government, industry, community conservation groups and private landholders, to gain and provide advice.
• Develop and maintain positive communications and working relationships with internal and external key stakeholders and represent the Department at a high level to ensure effective outcomes are achieved.
• Supporting effective program and budget delivery in providing strategic direction, budget management, identifying, documenting and managing risks, issues and opportunities.
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations peoples of Australia.

For this role, you'll bring proven leadership and high-level management skills, with the ability to build a high-performing, inclusive team. You'll have strong analytical and conceptual ability, and experience providing sensitive and authoritative advice to senior executives and Ministers under pressure. With a track record of leading major projects and programs, developing strategy, and delivering complex outcomes, you'll also demonstrate excellent communication, negotiation and consultation skills. You'll be skilled in driving change and continuous improvement, model Queensland public sector leadership behaviours, and actively contribute to a safe, respectful, diverse and inclusive workplace.
