As Director (Freight), you will lead the development of the new Queensland Freight Delivery Plan, amongst other programs and projects aimed at setting direction for an integrated freight system. Your leadership will shape how goods move across the state, how industry partners collaborate, and how innovation is embedded into supply chains to meet the growing needs of our community and industry.

About the role
This role is more than freight, it is about people. You will lead a multidisciplinary team and guide them to deliver outcomes that make a real difference for Queensland's freight and logistics sector.

You will:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, creating a culture of collaboration, delivery and professional growth.
  • Drive the design and implementation of the Freight Development Plan, aligning policy and investment with industry needs and government priorities.
  • Provide high-level strategic advice and briefings to Ministers, senior executives and government leaders on freight planning, investment and emerging trends.
  • Partner with industry, government and national forums to solve supply chain challenges and champion new technologies.
  • Shape a freight system that is future-ready, safe and efficient, supporting Queensland's economic growth.

About you
We are seeking a leader who thrives in complex environments and can balance people leadership with project delivery. This role is fast-paced, commercially significant and highly visible, requiring someone who can confidently influence and communicate at all levels.

You will bring:

  • A strong understanding of freight, logistics and supply chain trends, challenges and opportunities.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to brief Ministers, executives and industry leaders with clarity and impact.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to shape strategy, manage competing priorities and deliver practical outcomes.
  • Proven stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to influence across government, industry and community sectors.
  • A strategic mindset, capable of addressing immediate challenges while positioning Queensland's freight system for long-term success.
  • Experience across rail, road, ports or intermodal is highly regarded.
