QBCC is now on a journey to sharpen its governance, strengthen financial sustainability and modernise its systems and services. With ambitious housing targets and the Olympic and Paralympic legacy ahead, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will play an essential role in ensuring the organisation has the right foundations in place, including governance, digital resilience and a high-performing workforce, to deliver on this once-in-a-generation opportunity.
The COO will lead a new group dedicated to operational excellence. Bringing together finance, people, digital, legal, risk and integrity functions, the role will ensure the QBCC operates with resilience, integration and efficiency, and empower the regulator to meet the expectations of industry, government and the Queensland community every day.
At the QBCC, leaders are more than decision makers. They are role models for values and champions of culture. While experts in their field they are also doers. As COO you will be hands on, accountable and committed to lifting others as they go. By encouraging fresh perspectives, fostering growth mindsets and empowering people, you will ensure the QBCC has a high-performing, engaged workforce that delivers outcomes that matter.
About the Role
This is a pivotal moment for the QBCC and this role will be a career-defining opportunity that allows you to make a lasting impact on Queensland's construction sector. As COO, your influence will extend across governance, risk and assurance, cyber resilience, organisational culture and financial sustainability, ensuring the regulator is positioned to deliver with strength and confidence. This is a rare chance to shape the future of a vital organisation while contributing to the growth and stability of an industry that underpins Queensland's economy.
You will:
- Provide strategic leadership across all Corporate Services functions (Finance, People & Culture, Legal, Integrity, Risk, and Digital), enabling the Commission to deliver fair, transparent and customer-centred regulation.
- Drive integration, innovation and evidence-based decision making, ensuring the QBCC's services are future ready.
- Lead through influence, collaboration and accountability, working closely with the CEO, Commissioner, Board committees, peers and external partners.
- Build a high-performance culture that values inclusion, integrity and continuous improvement.
This role is central to the QBCC's ability to deliver on its mandate and to meet the expectations of industry, government and the community.
About You
Supporting the Chief Executive Officer, you will reinvigorate the QBCC by bringing your passion for the industry and outstanding customer service, and your drive for building a culture of operational excellence.
As a proven senior executive, you will possess experience leading multidisciplinary corporate service portfolios in a complex public sector or statutory authority environment. You are recognised for your:
- Strong governance and assurance expertise, with the ability to steward integrity, compliance and financial accountability.
- Track record in digital transformation, data-enabled decision making and service reliability.
- Ability to build organisational capability, foster leadership and cultivate a culture of high performance.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, including working with Boards, Ministers and external partners.
Above all, you are motivated by the opportunity to make a genuine difference, to strengthen the building and construction industry through leadership that inspires confidence and creates a lasting impact.
