You will support the Chief Finance Officer and the Manager Financial Accounting in leading and coordinating financial accounting processes and policies for the Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (LGWV). You will coordinate the preparation of the department’s financial statements, contribute to the asset management framework and develop and implement operational policies, procedures and practices that facilitate and support financial management within LGWV.

Key Duties and Accountabilities
• Coordinate the timely preparation of the department's annual financial statements in compliance with the Financial Accountability Act 2009, relevant accounting standards, Queensland Treasury Financial Reporting Requirements and other pronouncements including the CFO Assurance Statement
• lead the department's asset management framework by providing expert advice on asset accounting which includes major Property, Plant and Equipment and Infrastructure, recording and valuation policies, preparation of the annual stocktake management reports, procedures and systems which contribute to enhanced asset management and satisfy financial reporting requirements
• coordinate the timely end of accounting period closure processing, including reconciliations and accruals, to enable the timely development of the monthly financial reports to the leadership team and the annual financial statements
• Liaise with the Queensland Audit Office and Internal Audit and coordinate the provision of information to assist with audits
• Play a leading role in the development and review of policies, plans, strategies and procedures including the development and maintenance of an up-to-date Financial Management Practice Manual to ensure there is continuous improvement of the financial management of the department
• Assist in the timely and accurate preparation and review of reporting to Queensland Treasury, including quarterly Tridata submissions
• Assist in managing the integrity of the department's financial accounting records and systems, ensuring that they are maintained in accordance with accounting standards, legislative and departmental requirements
• Coordinate and prepare the information requirements supporting the annual insurance premium renewal process for the department
• Identify departmental training needs in financial accounting and contribute to the development and implementation of strategies and training programs to meet these needs
• Play a lead role in providing guidance and direction to other senior financial accountants within the financial reporting team
• Other duties as directed and required.
