In the role of Senior Policy Advisor, you will work in a team that is responsible for ensuring the safety and efficiency of the Queensland transport system. You will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects that impact all Queenslanders. This will allow you to hone a wide range of skills, including consultation, communication, policy analysis and legislative reform. You will undertake independent research and analysis on a range of vehicle registration matters and be encouraged to think creatively to maximise positive outcomes for customers, society and government. You will also be able to arrange flexible working arrangements to suit your lifestyle, this can include working from home, where appropriate.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Analysing and developing policy, legislative, and business solutions to reduce red tape, modernise policy and legislation, and improve road safety.
• Preparing a range of official government documentation including reports, briefing notes, cabinet submissions, options papers, departmental and other correspondence in accordance with departmental standards and within short timeframes.
• Providing evidence-based, logical and timely advice to internal and external stakeholders.
• Developing and maintaining effective networks, and consulting and negotiating with internal and external customers, interest groups, other government agencies (federal, state and local) and the general public.
• Coordinating activities or projects to ensure the effective delivery of policy outcomes.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions
• Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
Requirements of the role
• Experience working with legislation and policy frameworks and in preparing a range of complex documents (for example - this may include policy papers, reports, briefing notes, or departmental and other correspondence) in accordance with departmental standards and to set timeframes.
• Demonstrated ability to take accountability and work independently, or in a team, to deliver projects and identify, analyse and interpret policy information in a timely and professional manner within set timeframes.
• Demonstrated ability to work through obstacles, demonstrating persistence and honest recognition of progress against goals.
