QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government. It has been the Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.
About the role
Your role will support the department to partner with Queensland Government agencies in delivering their core services by providing state-wide planning, building, maintenance, and disaster response services that utilise local suppliers, QBuild tradespeople, and apprentices.
As the leader of a team of up to 20 staff, you'll ensure that projects and initiatives within the QBuild Careers and QBuild Apprentice Programs are aligned with departmental goals, executed efficiently, and deliver tangible benefits. You'll coordinate resources, manage timelines and budgets, and maintain clear communication with stakeholders to drive program success.
Lead a team: In this role, you'll actively inspire, mentor, and develop your team to achieve high performance. You will foster a collaborative, positive culture where team members feel supported, empowered, and motivated to reach their potential. You'll provide guidance on priorities, resolve conflicts, promote professional growth, and ensure the team has the skills and resources to deliver exceptional outcomes. Your leadership will model accountability, engagement, and effective communication, creating a workplace where staff feel valued and connected to the purpose of the program.
We are a rapidly growing business that relies on this position to recruit, develop, and retain staff, including apprentices who will become the skilled tradespeople of the future.
Duties and skills involved:
- Lead the development and management of strategies that attract, develop, and retain a skilled workforce for sustainable industry growth.
- Ensure the Careers and Apprentice programs are executed to build a strong pipeline of future tradespeople.
- Implement frameworks for capturing, delivering, and reporting on program outcomes, ensuring quality, value for money, and customer satisfaction.
- Provide high-level, timely advice to ensure departmental goals are achieved.
- Support regional and business area delivery within allocated resources.
- Analyse and report on financial data, identifying trends and adjusting forecasts as needed.
- Oversee advertising and marketing campaigns that promote QBuild's programs.
- Build and maintain strong relationships through effective liaison and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders.
This is an opportunity for an engaging communicator and experienced leader to make a real difference — developing people, shaping programs, building the next generation of skilled tradespeople, and driving a period of significant growth for QBuild.
