We’re on the lookout for a reliable, enthusiastic, and experienced Mechanical Tradesperson to join our team at RoadTek in Townsville on a full-time basis.
In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for the servicing and maintenance of our fleet of trucks, mobile plant, and equipment. We’re after someone with a strong work ethic, a keen eye for detail, and a proactive approach to safety and equipment care.

RoadTek is a commercial business within the Department of Transport and Main Roads. We provide transport infrastructure solutions for projects across Queensland. With a fleet of over 1,300 assets across 9 operational units, our workshop teams play a vital role in maintaining core equipment to support the delivery of essential infrastructure maintenance and construction services throughout the state.
As a Mechanical Tradesperson, you'll carry out mechanical maintenance in both workshop and field environments, ensuring our fleet remains safe, reliable, and ready for action.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions:
• Completion of an apprenticeship in a trade such as a Certificate III in Engineering-Mechanical Trade or similar equivalent trade certificate qualification.
• QLD Open 'C Class' Drivers Licence. The successful applicant will be required to work to obtain a HR Class Drivers Licence within a reasonable time following commencement.
• Periodically work a weekend roster or other roster to undertake workshop or field service activities.
• Participation in an afterhours call out roster as required.
• As a Mechanical Tradesperson, you may be required or have an opportunity, to travel to other service locations to undertake workshop or field service activities for varying periods of time. You will be entitled to expenses and allowances for such travel as per relevant awards/agreements.
Desirable qualifications:
• Refrigerant handling licence or equivalent, or any other heavy vehicle or plant associated licence or certificate, or willingness to obtain as continued professional development.
• High Risk LF Forklift Truck licence.
• RoadTek will consider the relevance of other qualifications you may hold to the Mechanical Tradesperson position and review possible learning pathways to obtain:
• AUR 31120 Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology; or
• MEM 31419 Engineering - Fixed and Mobile Plant Mechanic.
