DNA Management Officer

The DNA Outsourcing Unit is a dedicated team within the Forensic Services Group responsible for coordinating the outsourcing of forensic exhibits to accredited external laboratories for DNA analysis.
In this role, you will play a key part in preparing exhibits for dispatch and coordinating DNA analysis results to ensure accuracy and reliability of data. Your contribution will directly support the Queensland Government’s commitment to delivering timely access to justice for victims of serious crime.

Your Key Accountabilities:
The core capability requirements for this role are:
- Coordinate and review the retention and destruction of DNA person samples in compliance with legislation, quality assurance and standard operating procedures.
- Coordinate the review and release of DNA analysis results to ensure accuracy and reliability of data.
- Analyse processes, regulations and best practice in support of quality assurance and successful court outcomes.
- Liaise with and provide quality and accurate advice to a range of internal and external stakeholders and clients and represent FSG on internal and external committees.
- Assist in the development and delivery of specialist training and advice in DNA evidence management.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and review of systems, policies and procedures which support the management of DNA evidence and continuous improvement strategies.
- Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of a small team of administrative officers.
- Establish and maintain effective liaison with Service personnel and external clients such as Queensland Health Scientific Services and Department of Public Prosecutions to negotiate and provide advice on the analysis and dissemination of DNA information.
Role Requirements:
Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience:
- Prior experience in a role supporting forensic services is highly desirable.
Other:
- There are multiple temporary positions available until 30 June 2026, with the possibility of extension. If selected, public service officers from other agencies will be seconded for the period concerned, subject to agreement and release by the home agency. Applicants are advised that whilst performing the duties of the position they may be exposed to graphic material relating to crime scenes. The successful applicant may be required to work at Brisbane CBD and Coopers Plains at different times to attend to required tasks.
