An exciting opportunity exists to join the Secondary Campus Leadership Team at Tagai State College as the Head of Department - Teaching & Learning.

The position is based on Thursday Island at the secondary campus - Waybeni Koey Ngurpay Mudh.

The position is project based and will not extend beyond 12 months.

Who We Are:

Tagai State College located in the Torres Strait comprises 16 Primary and one Secondary campus. These campuses are spread across 48,000 square kilometres of ocean. For most students, English is an additional language. The Thursday Island Secondary campus has 400 students enrolled across 7-12. The Campus has a very dedicated and dynamic leadership team comprising a Head of Campus, 3 X Deputy Principals and 5 X Heads of Department who have developed a robust improvement agenda which they are implementing with fidelity.

Step Into Your Next Chapter:

The key focus of this role is to lead and implement systems that build staff capability in effective teaching practices to enhance student learning outcomes at Waybeni Koey Ngurpay Mudh.

The Role will have responsibliites for the following 3 focus areas:

Leadership:

  • Lead the design and implementation of the Whole School Approach to Differentiation
  • Lead the implementation of the Whole School Approach to Pedagogy.
  • Lead professional development for staff on effective pedagogies for EAL/D learners.
  • Lead professional development for staff on Bandscaling.
  • Lead professional development on Explicit Instruction.
  • Collaborate with all Heads of Department to design and implement the Whole School Approach to Literacy, Reading and Language.
  • Lead collegial engagement system for staff performance and capability development.

Student Support

  • Provide support and intervention to students in Year 11 - 12, escalated from the Head of Years
  • Work with Heads of Department to refine and implement systems that enhance student engagement in the classroom.
  • Oversee the Resource Centre and manage appropriate staff accordingly.
  • Work with the DP to allocate Teacher Aide resources and create timetables, while also planning their professional development and fostering collaboration between Teacher Aides and teachers to enhance student support.
