QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government.  It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.

About the role:

You will play a pivotal role in supporting QBuild's ambition to strengthen Queensland's building and construction industry by providing state-wide planning, building, maintenance and disaster response services that utilise local suppliers and QBuild tradespeople and apprentices.

Duties and skills involved:

  • Being aware of the Contractual obligations of the parties to the contract and applying those obligations honestly and fairly. 
  • Providing operational contract supervisory services in respect to construction and engineering contracts on major and complex projects by: 
    • Undertaking regular site inspections 
    • Ensuring site meetings are held at regular intervals and conducted in accordance with a standardised procedure 
    • Issuing Variation Orders 
    • Assessing contractual claims 
    • Processing Contractor's Requests for Information 
    • Ensuring compliance of the finished product with the contract documentation 
    • Preparation of defects lists 
    • Ensuring Building Act Compliance inspections are undertaken, and appropriate records kept 
  • Providing expert advice and information to assist the Superintendent in undertaking and administering dispute resolution processes in respect to building and engineering construction. 
  • Implementing contract administration policies and procedures applicable to traditional contracts as identified by the Superintendent. 
  • Acting in accordance with QBuild procedures and systems in respect to contract administration and contractual provisions. 
  • Implementing post contract performance evaluation systems and procedures to provide comprehensive and timely information required by the Pre-Qualified Contractor Register. 
  • Effectively communicating with clients and all project team members, in relation to all potential cost, time and quality issues. 
  • Participating in the review and improvement of the operational effectiveness of the Business Unit's Quality Assurance procedures as requested. 
  • Applying appropriate employment equity and workplace health and safety principles and procedures whilst undertaking the above duties and responsibilities. 
  • Act as a mentor and the main point of contact for other Superintendents Representatives with regard to contract supervisory services, also providing direction and management to the Superintendents Representative and contract management support staff to enhance their skills and maximise their performance and effectiveness. 
  • Proactively manage the work performance and personal conduct of your staff.

Additional requirements:

  • Knowledge of contract administration processes associated with traditional and non-traditional contracts. 
  • Experience in administering government building contracts is highly desirable.
