As the Manager, you will specifically:
• While the position is based at Atherton Youth Justice Service Centre you will also be responsible for the Mareeba and Innisfail offices and travel within the region for site visits and to other regional offices will be required. This may include infrequent overnight stays.
• Work will be required to be performed within the spread of hours 0600 to 1800. At times work may be required to be performed outside these hours. Remuneration, or otherwise, for work performed outside the spread of hours will be determined with the applicable Awards provision.
• Manage staff, physical and financial resources in accordance with relevant legislative provisions, strategic priorities, statutory delegations, departmental
policies, procedures and contemporary best practice.
• Allocate, prioritise and perform tasks in accordance with departmental procedures and statutory, financial and administrative delegations.
• Provide leadership and management in the delivery of high-quality youth justice services including the development of appropriate service responses to meet the identified needs of clients including young people, families, the community and the public and non-government sectors.
• Participate as a member of the regional leadership team and contribute to strategic and operational planning, reviews and key decision-making.
• Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Actively participate in and, where appropriate, lead local area forums with government and non-government stakeholders, promoting a positive and
accountable public image and the development of productive partnerships to support service delivery outcomes.
• Develop enduring service delivery partnerships to enhance cross-sectoral participation, training and development, and the delivery and co-ordination of local youth justice services.
• Foster a culture and philosophy of, cooperation, teamwork, high quality people management, commitment to excellence and a professional ethic which ensures the Youth Justice Service Centre continues to meet the department's priorities.
• Provide proactive high-level support, advice and information to regional management in relation to youth justice service outcomes, development of service delivery and improvement strategies, staff training and support strategies and performance agreements.
• Provide ongoing recruitment, selection, professional development and culturally appropriate supervision and leadership to staff.
• Lead engagement with people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds as well as demonstrating an appreciation of cultural protocols and an awareness of the impacts of historical policies and practices to ensure culturally appropriate services.
Delegations: This position has Human Resources and Financial delegations.
