Senior Regulatory Officer
Water Supply Regulation; Regulation and Operational Support; Water Resource Management; Brisbane preferred; flexible location at DLGWV offices will be considered
Operating from within Water Supply Regulation, you will assist in the regulation of service providers to assure drinking and recycled water quality and the regulation of service performance. The Water Supply Regulation team is responsible for all aspects of regulatory oversight in Queensland from the development and implementation of support programs to undertaking formal compliance activities, under the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008.
There is one permanent position and one fixed term temporary position available until 30 June 2027. Both positions are flexible full time.

Key Duties and Accountabilities
- Demonstrated experience in assessing complex administrative decisions, reviewing and assessing drinking water and recycled water quality risk management plans, validation program proposals, other documents and reports to ensure compliance with legislation and guidelines within required timeframes.
- Demonstrated experience in exercising regulatory powers, collecting evidence, conducting site inspections and taking appropriate risk-based compliance and enforcement action on complex matters.
- Assist in recording and responding to reported drinking water and recycled water quality incidents, resolving non-compliance in conjunction with other government agencies on complex matters.
- Review statutory reporting from regulated entities, make recommendations on compliance to managers and communicate the outcomes to the regulated entities on complex matters.
- Provide accurate, timely advice and interpretation of drinking water and recycled water legislation, regulations and guidelines to management, providers and other government agencies.
- Research, investigate and analyse complex identified issues, associated with the regulation of drinking water and recycled water.
- Assist in the preparation of high-quality correspondence, briefs, submissions and reports with the ability to clarify complex matters.
- Supervise and provide guidance to regulatory officers within the team, contributing to their professional development and ensuring completion of tasks within the required timeframes.
- Promote protection of public health in Queensland water supplies through the development of sound relationships with regulated entities and visiting entities in regional and remote areas to provide regulatory support and advice. Please note, travel will be required as part of the role.
- Contribute to the development and review of complex technical and regulation documents that complement existing, new or amended legislation.
- Other duties as directed and required.
Role Requirements
- There are no mandatory requirements for this role, however, a tertiary degree in science or engineering as well leading regulatory teams would be highly regarded.
- Travel away from the centre will be required. This may involve travel outside of normal office hours and/or overnight accommodation for extended periods. This could also involve work in regional Queensland.
- You will be required to be on an on-call roster responding to water quality incidents that occur outside of normal business hours.
