QCSA provides education, training, and professional development opportunities for corrective services staff across the state. In this role you will:
- Identify the competency needs of QCS Custodial staff and any relevant characteristics of each participant using appropriate investigation methods
- Conduct skills audit to ensure training meets the needs of the QCS and the individual needs of staff Provide input to the Academy Team in relation to training
- Liaise with Correctional Centre Management and appropriate correctional personnel to support and promote the training programs
- Prepare and deliver custodial training ensuring resources and any specific needs are organised prior to delivering sessions
- Ensure content of training programs is reflective of QCS Policies and procedures.
- Establish suitable assessment methods to ensure sufficient evidence is gathered to determine competency of trainee custodial officers and other students in addition to providing students with feedback and support
- Obtain and arrange resources specified in the assessment tool and ensure assessments are conducted within a safe environment and results are recorded in accordance with relevant standards and procedures
- Evaluate training and assessment methods and tools used through self-assessment, participant feedback and supervisor comments and record assessment results accurately in accordance with specified RTO standards
- Use information collated through an effective training evaluation process to contribute to the continuous improvement of the Custodial Operations training curriculum and content
- Identify internal and external organisations/partners to ensure that departmental processes are in accordance with industry benchmarks
- Participate in consultation and review with relevant stakeholders to ensure continuous improvement occurs on custodial training and modify and improve the delivery of programs in accordance with evaluations
- Coordinate training calendar for custodial entry level and development programs
- Provide recognition of current competencies and recognition of prior learning opportunities to staff
- Validate all new training and assessment tools in accordance with Registered Training Organisation standards and QCS policies and procedures
The essential requirements for this role are:
- Experience in the delivery of competency-based training and assessment
- Experience in and a detailed understanding of the operations of the corrections industry particularly those related to the operations of a correctional centre
- Knowledge and skills to deliver and assess staff in Entry Level Training and Correctional Practices competencies and assessments
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and the ability to apply those in the design and delivery of training
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills to deal with trainee custodial officers whilst conducting entry level training
- Excellent presentation skills with the ability to think on your feet when facilitating
- Confident facilitator with demonstrated capability to successfully engage a diverse audience of adult learners to help cement knowledge transfer and application
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and work in a team environment.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills to ensure training programs and delivery of those programs is designed for the target audience
- Demonstrated skills in negotiating service delivery priorities, deadlines, and resources
