The Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation’s Threatened Species Operations team leads the state-wide program dedicated to the protection and recovery of Queensland’s threatened species.
As a Senior Project Officer you will use your ecological expertise and understanding of pest management practices to design and lead projects aimed at improving our understanding of the impacts of key threats (pests) on threatened species. You will work together with QPWS rangers and other land managers to implement effective conservation and recovery strategies across South-west Queensland.

The Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation's Threatened Species Operations team leads the state-wide program dedicated to the protection and recovery of Queensland's threatened species. Operating across a diverse range of ecosystems—both terrestrial and aquatic, including some of the state's most remote areas—our work is delivered through rigorous scientific research, targeted conservation actions, and proactive recovery strategies. Our purpose is to safeguard Queensland's unique biodiversity, now and for future generations.
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Project Officer to join our Threatened Species Operations Unit.
In this role, you will design and lead projects aimed at improving our understanding of the impacts of key threats (pests) on threatened species. You will play a pivotal role in implementing effective conservation and recovery strategies across the Southwest Queensland region.
As a Senior Project Officer, you will:
• Work in partnership with QPWS Rangers, the State Technical Services Pest Management team, and other land managers to deliver high-impact conservation outcomes.
• Apply your knowledge of pest and threatened species ecology to develop projects to address threatened species management challenges.
• Lead project planning, implementation, and evaluation, demonstrating strong leadership and contributing to a respectful, inclusive workplace culture.
Collaboration is central to your success in this role. You will engage with a broad range of stakeholders, including regional partners and First Nations communities.
Your ability to build strong, respectful relationships and communicate effectively will be essential in achieving long-term conservation goals.
