QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government. It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, supporting communities across the state by building and maintaining government‑owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.
About the role
As the Principal Business Manager, you will play a key role in advancing Queensland's building and construction services. The position provides high‑level financial and business management expertise across SEQ, overseeing financial performance across multiple locations and cost centres. You will work closely with managers, directors and Corporate Finance to ensure accurate financial operations and compliance with organisational standards, requiring experience in large organisations with complex financial structures and significant budgets, forecasts and financial processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing high‑level financial and strategic advice, including business modelling, financial reporting, compliance, cost‑benefit analysis and preparation of budgets and forecasts.
- Leading regional budget preparation and financial processes, liaising with Corporate Finance on forecasts, accruals, journals and end‑of‑month/year requirements.
- Delivering accurate financial reporting and analysis, including monthly variances, KPIs and insights on work order management and staff utilisation.
- Reviewing, developing and implementing consistent performance management systems across accounting, budgeting, fee levels and financial activities.
- Maintaining strong knowledge of financial and administrative standards, policies and procedures.
- Supporting and monitoring disaster management financial arrangements.
- Contributing to operational and strategic planning, client reporting and Ministerial/Executive briefings.
- Managing the development of work procedures, protocols and training.
- Building capability and fostering effective working relationships through continuous development of individuals and teams.
- Managing staff performance and conduct.
- Leading projects and initiatives to solve complex problems, improve efficiencies and deliver strategic outcomes.
About You
- Experience managing large‑scale budgets and financial processes in complex, multi-cost centre environments.
- Strong financial consolidation skills, integrating data from diverse sources into accurate regional budgets.
- Advanced financial reporting and analysis capability (Excel, Power BI) to support insights and decision‑making.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, collaborating effectively with senior executives, directors and operational teams.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, driving accountability, continuous improvement and mentoring teams.
- Ability to contribute to operational planning and high‑level reporting.
- Strong understanding of financial standards and compliance in large operational contexts.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate self‑leadership and proactively deliver outcomes in dynamic environments.
