Your role within Building Policy will support the department to provide services relating to the built environment, such as setting policy and standards, administering legislation and codes, research and advice on industry trends, and partnerships with stakeholders to influence the direction of the building industry. The work you will do helps someone every day, and that means the world to us. Your role will support the department to provide housing assistance, homelessness support services, public works building and design and industry regulatory reform.

What you will be doing:

  • Leading program management activities and driving the collaboration and integration of business performance strategies and frameworks for the successful delivery of complex reforms including management and resource allocation
  • Providing leadership and guidance on all business support activities across Building Policy including workforce management, financial analysis, budgeting, governance, planning, reporting, performance management and administration support.
  • Providing strategic advice and support to the Assistant Director-General and leadership team in relation to key initiatives, policy and procedural matters as a matter of priority, and providing relevant high level and strategic advice and/or correspondence in a timely, efficient and accurate manner that address relevant Building Policy, divisional, whole-of-Department, central agency and/or whole-of Government matters.
  • Researching and preparing complex reports and other documents and contributing to the decision-making process of the Building Policy leadership team through actively representing the findings of research activities.
  • Reporting on key priorities to ensure the Assistant Director-General and leadership team is briefed on developments that may impact on Building Policy, the department or its service delivery.
  • Facilitating an awareness of significant risks to Building policy, identifying specific risks that may result from Building Policy activities or could impact Building Policy, and presenting strategies and processes to effectively mitigate or avoid such risk. This risk could relate to compliance with contractual requirements, compliance with key policies and processes, potential political and/or reputational risk and risks associated with the disclosure of information through the Right to Information process.
