Senior Training Officer

As the Senior Training Officer, you will coordinate the design, implementation, review and assessment of training programs and awareness initiatives which will uplift the information and technology capabilities of QCS staff and guide the correct use of QCS data and business systems such as the Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS). The role is also responsible for delivering these training programs and awareness initiatives and providing guidance to other trainers as required.

In this role, you will support QCS staff by identifying training needs, developing learning strategies, and delivering high‑quality training across a range of formats. You will design and deliver competency‑based learning materials, coordinate statewide training activities, and work closely with stakeholders (including the QCS Academy) to resolve training issues and support frontline service delivery.

You will maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of QCS systems, data management processes, and ICT policies to ensure training content remains accurate, relevant and compliant. The role also involves developing and maintaining digital learning resources (including eLearning modules), using modern training tools such as Microsoft 365, LMS platforms, Author‑it, Articulate Storyline and Camtasia.

You will evaluate training effectiveness, ensure ongoing access to learning materials, and provide expert support for the IOMS application, including user support, release notes, UAT participation and system improvement recommendations. As a subject matter expert, you will provide training and advice to QCS sites across the state.

About You:

The essential requirements for this role are:

  • Experience in the planning and delivery of information and technology training.
  • Experience in, or an ability to rapidly acquire a detailed understanding of the Queensland Corrective Services operational and ICT environment.
  • Ability to analyse, develop, deliver, facilitate and evaluate training programs and awareness sessions.
  • Experience in the delivery of competency-based training and assessment.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and the ability to apply those in the design and delivery of training.
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to think on your feet when facilitating.
  • Demonstrated capability to successfully engage a diverse audience of adult learners to help cement knowledge transfer and application.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and work in a team environment.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills to ensure training programs and delivery of those programs is designed for the target audience.
  • Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, problem solving and negotiating service delivery priorities, deadlines, and resources.
  • Experience in organisational change management and the deployment of information systems.
  • Experience in or ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of eLearning systems.

Other conditions and requirements:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification would be advantageous.
