The Executive Director (Strategic Rail Freight) will lead the strategic development and prioritisation of rail freight initiatives (infrastructure and/or operational), to shape a smarter, integrated rail freight system for the future.
In this role, you will:
- Develop robust business cases and detailed planning for rail freight initiatives, including interpreting transport and economic models, drivers and forecast scenarios, and responding to stakeholder perspectives and Government objectives for the community.
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders across government, Queensland Rail and industry to understand and solve complex challenges, including interfaces between freight and passenger projects on Queensland's rail network.
- Provide strategic advice to senior leadership, including the General Manager (Strategic Rail), the Deputy Director-General (Rail Division), and executives from a range of agencies, on the timely resolution of key issues and opportunities to achieve value-for-money outcomes across the network.
- Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary team, providing integrated strategic, operational and tactical advice across various functions, including, but not limited to, strategy, planning, procurement, human resources, compliance, and operations.

Requirements of the role
- Experience in developing major rail planning business cases and projects, in accordance with Queensland Government project assessment frameworks.
- Experience working with rail freight stakeholders, and an understanding of the industry's key operational challenges and opportunities.
- Qualifications in one or more of the following: Transport Planning, Engineering, Construction, Program Management, Business or Public Sector Administration.
- Experience with Public Sector rail infrastructure planning, management and leadership of rail programs in a large complex organisation, including all aspects of the business of commercial infrastructure delivery and asset management.

- Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
- It is a condition of employment for recommended appointee/s to disclose any previous serious discipline action taken against them for consideration by the delegate prior to any appointment.
