Your Key Accountabilities:

The core capability requirements for this role are:

  • Effectively lead and build a trusted team to plan, design and operationalise health and safety functions across the QPS.
  • Contribute to strategic planning in line with organisational goals relating to work, workplace and worker health and safety.
  • Plan, formulate, develop, implement, and monitor work health and safety management system and performance standards which establish compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Research, develop and implement systems and initiatives, practices and policies relating to work health and safety to support the corporate health and safety management system framework.
  • Develop documentation, including executive briefs, policies, procedures, reports, staff communications and review proposals on work health and safety issues and initiatives.
  • Provide WHS advice to all levels of management, health and safety advisors and QPS members, including guidance for WHS risk assessment and management, and provide relevant data to support management within a due diligence framework.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams and liaise and negotiate with staff in the QPS health and safety consultative network and other internal and external stakeholders.

Role Requirements:

Mandatory

  • Intrastate travel and a C Class Driver's License (minimum).

Qualification

  • Possession of a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or other relevant qualification in health and safety is highly desirable.

Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience

  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining a safety management system compliant with ISO45001:2018 would support success in this role.
  • WHS technical experience including operational field work.
  • Experience at a senior level in supervising WHS teams or practitioners would be a distinct advantage.
