Join the Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support as a Manager Business Support Services within the purpose-built Woodford Youth Detention Centre. Based in Brisbane CBD and Wacol initially with flexible working options and a view to be permanently based in Woodford, you will report directly to the Executive Director and lead the establishment and operation of high-quality, culturally responsive ancillary business support services with a focus on quality improvement, leadership and learning opportunities for staff, and maintaining a safe and secure environment in accordance with industry standards.

This permanent, full-time role offers a rewarding opportunity to provide safe and purposeful detention to youth and contribute to safer Queensland communities. Mandatory requirements of the role include a valid Blue Card.

About the Centre

Situated in Woodford, Moreton Bay, the WYDC is well-connected to Brisbane and surrounding areas via major highways, making it accessible for families, staff and services, with minimal disruption to surrounding communities.

It features holistic and functional design elements which aim to support rehabilitation of youth and enhance community safety.

Key features include:

  • 112 beds, split across two 56-bed campuses with shared facilities
  • Smaller, home-like accommodation units (8 or fewer beds per unit) to foster collaboration between young people, staff, and stakeholders
  • Consultation and treatment rooms
  • Multipurpose spaces for education, skills development, and training
  • Areas for physical activity and green spaces
  • Dedicated spaces for cultural connection, faith, and spiritual support.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Manager Business Support Services, you will specifically:

  • Effectively lead, supervise and manage ancillary services teams to foster teamwork, maintain professionalism, achieve youth detention goals, including the delivery of high-quality services, ensuring operational efficiency, supporting rehabilitation programs, and promoting a safe and supportive environment for staff and young people.
  • Actively contribute to building a culture of safety and service excellence.
  • Provide timely and accurate strategic and operational information, advice and analysis to the Executive Director and the management team on culturally responsive business services, financial, information management and other administrative and business issues, including monitoring performance against the strategic and business plan key performance indicators.
  • Provide high level strategic advice to the Executive Director and Management team regarding the development and ongoing management of the centre's annual budget in accordance with operational plans and departmental requirements.
  • Manage the WYDC budget (with the support of tools such as SAS and SAPr3) to effectively analyse and report on financial performance against agreed objectives through the development of monitoring and reporting systems.
  • Analyse systems and processes to ensure the financial integrity of business operations and adapt existing approaches and employ technology to drive system improvement.
  • Oversee business continuity planning and projects in relation to business services and operations management including learning and development, recruitment and selection, and systems.
  • Engage in risk planning and contingency management to ensure that services are resilient, fit for purpose and meeting the needs of detained young people, and staff.
  • Build and maintain professional client relationships with stakeholders including departmental staff, other government agencies, community groups, industry and business to facilitate professional management practices.
  • Liaise with external contractors to ensure accountability for centre maintenance, develop and implement initiatives for facilities management, asset management and replacement plans.
  • Ensure that the necessary business services roles and responsibilities are implemented to achieve and ensure effective and efficient service delivery, including rostering, performance management and service delivery outcomes, with consideration to occupational health and safety and workplace rehabilitation needs.
  • Participate as an effective member of the WYDC management team in the development, promotion and implementation of the department's strategic direction, policies and procedures, operational plans and rules, and in addressing day-to-day business and operational issues.

**Position location: Woodford Youth Detention Centre (With training and onboarding to occur in Brisbane CBD, Wacol, Woodford, and potentially other locations.)
