The Contract Officer supports the implementation of the contract lifecycle from contract set-up to contract close-out.
The role is responsible for
- Undertaking market analysis,
- Participation in end-to-end procurement processes,
- Contract administration, including negotiating, establishing and managing contracts,
- Establishing productive and respectful relationships with a diverse range of suppliers.

As a Contract Officer you will:
- Establish, negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers within the departments contract management framework, and human services environment.
- Build and maintain productive and respectful working relationships with suppliers, and stakeholders within and across government and the broader human services networks.
- Provide advice and information to suppliers and departmental staff regarding investment specifications, quality assurance systems and accountability requirements.
- Monitor service delivery by suppliers and/or licensed organisations to ensure compliance with contracts, program guidelines, legislation and other departmental requirements.
- Undertake monitoring of individual care services covered by a licence, including site inspections.
- Identify, monitor and implement remedial actions to improve supplier performance and recognise when issues need to be escalated.
- Negotiate renewal, variations and ending of contracts with suppliers.
- Work collaboratively with key internal business areas to ensure value and quality of service delivery.
- Prepare briefs, plans, quotes, correspondence and other departmental reports in a timely and professional manner, consistent with departmental guidelines.
- Contribute to a professional environment through a personal commitment to, ethical behaviour, staff wellbeing, skills development, professional growth and continuous improvement.
- Professionally represent the department at forums with key stakeholders andsuppliers.
Your mandatory requirements
- Possession of or able to obtain a blue card administered by the Queensland Public Safety Business Agency
- Travel is a requirement of this position, including visiting remote communities.
- Possession of a current “C” Class Drivers licence.
- Formal procurement, purchasing and/or contract management accreditation is well regarded (i.e. Queensland Purchasing, QGCPO, CIPS or similar), or have the ability to acquire this accreditation.
