We're seeking motivated and capable professionals to join the Water Supply Regulation team as Regulatory Officers (AO5). In this role, you'll play an important part in safeguarding drinking and recycled water quality and supporting safe, reliable water services for communities across Queensland.
Working within the Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers, you'll contribute to frontline regulatory activities under the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008. Your work will directly support the protection of public health through effective regulation, risk based compliance, and constructive engagement with water service providers and government partners.

The role
Operating within Water Supply Regulation in the Water Resource Management division, you will assist in regulating registered drinking water and sewerage service providers across Queensland. The team is responsible for end to end regulatory oversight, including the assessment of drinking and recycled water quality management plans, monitoring ongoing compliance, responding to water quality incidents, and undertaking formal compliance and enforcement activities. You'll work on a diverse range of matters, balancing technical assessment, regulatory decision making and stakeholder engagement. The role involves collaboration with service providers, public health agencies and other government stakeholders, including travel to regional and remote locations as required.

Key responsibilities
• Review and assess drinking water and recycled water quality management plans, validation proposals and related reports to ensure compliance with legislation and guidelines
• Monitor and assess compliance through the review of data, statutory reporting and other evidence
• Undertake site inspections, collect and manage evidence, and contribute to risk based compliance and enforcement actions
• Assist in responding to drinking and recycled water quality incidents, working collaboratively to minimise risks to public health
• Provide clear, accurate advice and interpretation of water legislation, regulations and guidelines
• Contribute to high quality briefs, correspondence, submissions and reports
• Support the development and review of regulatory guidance and technical documentation

About you
You'll be someone who is analytical, detail focused and comfortable working with complex regulatory frameworks. You communicate clearly, exercise sound  judgement, and can work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

You will bring:

• Experience in regulatory compliance, water quality management or a related technical or regulatory field
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to interpret legislation and technical information
• Well developed written and verbal communication skills
• A collaborative approach and commitment to public sector values, integrity and good governance
• A tertiary qualification in science, engineering, environmental science or a related discipline (highly regarded)
