Wildlife Officer


Wildlife & Threatened Species Operations; Queensland Parks and Wildlife & Partnerships; Garbutt / Cairns

We are seeking a wildlife officer who is able to work collaboratively in a team, with experience in leading a small team.

The team operates in remote northern Queensland to deliver services to conserve and protect native and threatened wildlife and associated habitat. Travel will be required, however you would be based out Cairns. The preferred candidate will have a minimum of coxswain 3 and able to obtain a coxswain 2 within 6 months of employment.

A broad skill set in operational tasks and equipment use and maintenance in remote isolated areas, along with proficient administrative skill set would be ideal.

Wildlife Rangers in Northern Wildlife Operations have a focus on wildlife management. This includes working with crocodiles, cassowaries and flying-foxes and may require safely responding to isolated and remote situations in North Queensland for extended periods of time. Tasks are likely to include operating communication and navigational systems, employing survival techniques, undertaking equipment repair, and the use of environmental indicators to make decisions. You may be required to undertake short term stays in remote locations with little or no facilities available.
