As an instructional Designer [AO5], you will play a critical role in building engaging, practical and innovative learning experiences that prepare our members for real world operations. Your work will directly support frontline capability across the state.

Your key accountabilities

The core capability requirements for this role are: 

  • Contribute to the review, development, instructional design and evaluation of flexible education and training material and resources to enhance learning experiences, and manage completion within negotiated timeframes. 
  • Develop and design high quality curriculum products that meet SES capability owner requirements and align with training and assessment standards and meet legislative and departmental compliance. 
  • Undertake research, planning, analysis, and interpret and align curriculum design to industry competency standards and qualifications, ensuring training products align to operational capabilities. 
  • Ensure the appropriate application of contemporary adult education principles and methodology to all curriculum products and resources for both interactive eLearning and face to face delivery. 
  • Prepare correspondence, briefs, submissions and reports in relation to training curriculum and related issues as required, and in accordance with department requirements and timeframes. 
  • Provide advice and manage projects identifying changes and recommendation within the development and production processes for a range of flexible learning materials and programs. 
  • Liaise, consult and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders regarding initiatives impacting on the design of flexible learning materials and delivery of programs. 
  • Represent SES and contribute to the delivery and coordination of workshops and meetings with internal and external stakeholders in relation to projects, curriculum and best practice training programs.

Role Requirements: 

Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience - 

  • Possession of a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and/or accredited tertiary qualification in adult education or can obtain the skill within a mutually agreed timeframe. 
  • Knowledge or experience working in a quality assurance role within a Registered Training Organisation environment. 
  • Knowledge or experience with eLearning systems (e.g. Articulate and/or Accelerate), tools and methods to enhance learning experiences. 
  • Knowledge or experience in project management methodologies. 

Other - 

  • It is expected the incumbent will possess the necessary expertise or experience to be appointed as an Authorised Rescue Officer in accordance with section 148(2) of the Fire and Emergency Services Act 1990. Therefore, this role is also a designated SES uniformed position. 
  • Capacity to work on night and weekends to suit an SES volunteer environment.
  • It is expected that the incumbent will participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster during emergency operations. This may require work outside of normal hours (e.g. night shift), including weekends, working extended hours and may include travel to rural and remote communities, intrastate or interstate travel as necessary and/or deployment activities to other parts of the state.
