The Queensland Revenue Office (QRO) is currently seeking applications to fill multiple permanent full-time vacancies working as an AO4 Investigations Officer, based in our Brisbane office.

Working in a collaborative team environment, this position will see you conduct and contribute to investigations and audits to ensure compliance with Queensland’s revenue laws. You will also assist taxpayers through information and education to understand and meet their obligations.

The vacancies currently exist within the Land Tax and Royalty & Complex Assessments divisions, however this process may be used to fill similar roles working across other divisions and revenue lines in Brisbane. 

As an Investigations Officer, you will analyse, interpret and apply relevant legislation on revenue and taxation matters, make assessments and exercise delegations to deliver service to our clients. You will also analyse risk and take action to recover revenue where necessary.

Your typical day as an Investigations Officer may include:
• Conducting audits and investigations across various compliance activities 
• Identifying and addressing instances of non-compliance with revenue laws
• Working with data to assess risk to revenue and making recommendations to proceed with investigations
• Reviewing client lodgements, and making determinations about taxation liabilities
• Interpret and apply legislation and policy to make sound, evidence-based decisions with integrity and accountability
• Prepare clear, and objective reports documenting decision making processes and outcomes, demonstrating transparency and sound governance
• Engage with taxpayers in a respectful, client-centric way to gather information, explain decisions and support understanding of obligations
• Work collaboratively with your team to share ideas, solve problems and continuously improve how we deliver for Queenslanders

To be successful in this role you will need:
• demonstrated resilience, patience and persistence in dealing with clients and making insightful decisions to resolve complex problems.
• proficiency in writing letters and reports, demonstrating attention to detail and clarity of information.
• demonstrated capability to analyse, interpret and apply legislation and/or policy or critical thinking to achieve successful outcomes. 

There are no mandatory qualifications needed for this role, however, relevant qualifications are highly regarded e.g. law, business or accounting.
