The Professional Standards and Governance Command (PSGC) ensures the community has confidence that QCS as a top tier public safety agency is delivering professional corrective services through a competent and confident workforce supported by strong and ethical leadership.

As a Managing Inspector within the Critical Incident Review and Inspections Group, you will provide strategic oversight and leadership in investigating critical incidents, reviewing service delivery, and inspecting correctional centres and community corrections offices. Your work will support safe, humane, and contemporary correctional practices across the state.

• Manage a team of Principal Inspectors undertaking complex investigations/reviews into significant incidents occurring in custodial correctional centres and in relation to community corrections services as required, and in compliance with the provisions of relevant legislation. Assist the Principal Inspectors ascertain causes and contributing factors and determine measures for future prevention and evidence-based recommendations for practice improvement.
• Manage, and at times, lead, plan and conduct inspections of corrective services facilities, including community corrections offices and correctional centres.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with divisional partners and external stakeholders, including QCS executives and senior leaders, to ensure investigations and inspections are managed consistently and collaboratively.
• Develop and implement practices and procedures regarding the implementation of major incident investigations, incident reviews and inspections. Develop strategies to improve the quality of the investigations, reviews and inspections undertaken, including the communication, analysis and evaluation of relevant findings.
• Support the professional development of team members, ensuring high-quality outputs through guidance, mentoring, and quality assurance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, participating in committees and working groups to promote a consistent, risk-focused approach to investigations and reviews.

Essential Requirements:

• In-depth understanding of correctional and/or community corrections operations, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
• Advanced research, analytical, and report-writing skills with a proven track record in complex investigations.
• Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, especially in sensitive and complex situations.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with experience in motivating and developing high-performing teams.
• Current knowledge of government and agency policies, as well as legislative requirements related to correctional operations.
• Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including providing high-quality briefings and submissions.

Desirable: Qualifications in investigations, inspections, evaluation, criminology, law, or social sciences.

The role may require occasional travel, flexible work hours, and working from alternate locations.
