Senior Assessment Officer

Lead from the front in a role where your communication and people skills can shine. This is a ‘sleeves rolled up’ senior position where you will work alongside the team. You’ll mentor and develop staff, support and embed training, and act as the first point of contact for escalations, providing calm, clear leadership in complex situations. Solid communication and collaboration are key, as is your flexibility to pivot and adapt to changing priorities. As a Senior Assessment Officer, you’ll investigate and decide on complex licensing matters, interpret legislation with confidence, and make impactful decisions within delegation. You’ll represent the QBCC in tribunals, courts and industry forums, contribute to system and policy improvements, and play a vital role in delivering consistent, high-quality service across the organisation.

About the role  

As a Senior Assessment Officer, you'll play a pivotal, hands-on role supporting others while navigating complex licensing matters. You'll use your expertise to guide and mentor operational staff, support training initiatives, and act as a trusted first point of contact for escalations, providing clear, calm direction when it counts. This role works closely with a broad range of internal teams, industry stakeholders, customers and external bodies, requiring strong collaboration and communication skills. You'll assess and determine complex licensing applications, interpret legislation at a senior level, and represent the organisation in tribunals, courts and industry forums as needed. You'll also contribute to continuous improvement, sharing insights, supporting change initiatives, and helping strengthen policies, systems and service delivery.
