The position requires a person who will take personal responsibility for serving the government of the day and meeting the needs of the people and communities of Queensland. The Principal Advisor, Inclusion Strategy, will provide support to the Manager to drive implementation of Queensland’s Disability Plan 2022-2027: Together, a better Queensland, Queensland’s primary mechanism for delivering on the seven outcome areas of Australia’s Disability Strategy, in a way that encompasses the unique aspects of Queensland’s peoples, regions and diversity.

You will be innovative and accomplished at contributing to the development of strategies and programs to help build inclusion and the social and economic participation of Queenslanders.

As a Principal Advisor you will:

  • Contribute to the implementation of Queensland's Disability Plan 2022-2027: Together, a better Queensland by leading the implementation of specific actions under the plan including, mapping existing frameworks and identifying opportunities, gaps and innovative solutions and linkages to 2032 Brisbane Olympie and Paralympic Games to drive genuine change for economic participation of people with disability, and driving procurement processes, undertaking effective project planning and monitoring and evaluation of project outcomes.
  • Coordinate the Council's annual reporting process on findings and recommendations arising from the implementation of disability service plans across Queensland Government and including preparation of reports to the Minister.
  • Support and promote the importance of project specific co-design approaches to support delivery of an inclusive and accessible Queensland in line with Queensland's Disability Plan 2022-2027: Together, a better Queensland, through development of evidence-based reporting data.
  • Provide supervision and direction to team members, as agreed with the Manager, on specific actions under the Queensland Disability Plan or pieces of work that contribute to the team's overall goals of people with disability.
  • Provide evidence-based advice to stakeholders across Queensland Government to help educate and raise awareness of accessibility and inclusion practices.
  • Support the Manager to plan and maintain budget resources, manage and evaluate procurement processes, and establish and maintain effective systems to monitor and track payments in accordance with whole of government and departmental processes.
  • Prepare high quality written advice on complex issues, including the preparation of reports, project plans, correspondence, discussion papers and other communications to a high standard on a wide range of strategic issues impacting people with disability.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with government agencies and disability sector stakeholders and engage regularly with these stakeholders to identify and provide advice on current and emerging disability inclusion issues and challenges.
  • Actively contribute and provide leadership in fostering a team environment and positive culture, where team members enjoy coming to work, are appropriately skilled and challenged, and understand the contributions their role plays in the success of business outcomes
  • As a member of the team, undertake tasks allocated by the Manager, Inclusion Strategy, in a constantly changing work environment to support innovation and efficient delivery.
  • Work with leaders across the department on building the department as an employer or choice for people with disability and as an exemplar for other Queensland Government agencies to benchmark against and seek advice from on employing people with disability.
