The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is a vital part of Queensland's justice system, representing the State in prosecuting criminal matters across courts such as the High Court of Australia, Supreme Court, District Court, and more. Our work addresses complex and sensitive legal matters, ensuring justice is upheld with professionalism and integrity.
About your opportunity
This is an exciting temporary opportunity for three years to join a dynamic team dedicated to improving prosecution practices and outcomes, particularly in cases involving sexual violence and offending. As a Senior Legal Officer in the Prosecution Case Review Unit, you will:
- Review and analyse complex legal cases, identifying strengths and weaknesses in the conduct of prosecutions to drive continuous improvement in legal practices.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders, including the Sexual Violence Review Board and the Sexual Offence Case Management Pilot program board, to review prosecution cases with a focus on sexual violence and sexual offending.
- Provide high-quality data and analytics, responding to requests for information related to the prosecution of sexual offences to support evidence-based decision making.
- Contribute to the prosecution monitoring and review framework, offering expert advice to legal practitioners involved in active prosecutions to enhance case outcomes and procedural integrity.
What we're looking for
- Demonstrated legal practice capabilities, preferably developed through experience in criminal law practice, along with a strong understanding of the legal framework and operations of the justice sector.
- Exceptional analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex legal challenges and negotiate for outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
- High-level interpersonal skills and a deep understanding of trauma-informed practice, ensuring sensitivity and care in victim-centric services.
- Leadership capability, including the ability to lead and collaborate with a team of legal and administrative professionals, driving accountability and delivering results.
- A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, cultural maturity, and the highest standards of ethics and integrity, ensuring respect and fairness in all aspects of your work.
Mandatory requirements
You will be admitted as a Legal Practitioner in a State or Territory of Australia (please indicate date of admission).
