Rapid Response works as a fast response to sudden surges in youth offending and youth crime hotspots in regions of Queensland. We deploy teams to provide strategic advice, additional resources, evidence-based support and upskill regional youth service centres to combat youth offending. The team works closely with the community during deployment to deliver sustainability in the capability and capacity of service centres.
During each deployment, Rapid Response aims to:
• increase the capability of regional service centres to provide consistent, evidence-based service responses, referrals and working with community to effectively reduce reoffending in Queensland
• increase public safety and community confidence
• contribute to decrease overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youths in the youth justice system.

Key responsibilities
As Caseworker, you will specifically:
- Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Deliver high quality statutory casework services to young people with minimal supervision using high level assessment and intervention skills to deliver integrated and culturally appropriate services, including intensive engagement with families, community organisations and other key stakeholders, in accordance with the legislative, policy and procedural requirements.
- Prepare and present information and evidence to the Children's Court, including an ability to conduct pre and post court interviews, liaise with key court stakeholders and prepare pre-sentence reports, affidavits and other documentation as required.
- Engage with and establish partnerships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and service providers, in a number of local areas, to establish an appropriate therapeutic alliance to achieve quality casework outcomes.
- Undertake court and restorative justice tasks and activities as required.
- Work closely with key stakeholders whilst on deployments.
- Provision and effective coordination of the therapeutic alliance, formulating a singular case plan with consistent action orientated goals to support the young person and their family members. This may include assisting a parent/guardian, sibling and/or young person to obtain employment, re-engage in education, address substance misuse, access physical and mental health services, access safe housing, learn responsible parenting skills, address anti-social behaviour and improve community participation.
- Undertake a range of record and information management tasks including maintenance of case records, preparation of reports, and data entry to ensure casework and accountability in accordance with policy and procedures and as requested by Management.
- Liaise with and seek advice and approval from the relevant Youth Justice Service Centre staff in relation to the management of complex cases, development of programs, the exercising of statutory delegations, payment of program related costs and other matters as required.
- Actively participate in and deliver training and professional development activities to develop, maintain and enhance knowledge and competencies to ensure that service delivery is based on contemporary, evidence based, best practice principles and is consistent with current practice trends and departmental objectives.
- Actively participate in regular formal and informal supervision, apply self-reflective practices and contribute to peer supervision.
Requirement to travel: it is a mandatory requirement of this role to be able to travel and work outside of hours whilst on deployment for up to 21 days at a time.
Remuneration, or otherwise, for work performed outside the spread of hours will be determined in accordance with the applicable Award provisions.
As travel is a requirement of this position, it is a requirement that the applicant hold a current “C” Class Drivers licence.
