This is an Identified Position. For this position, it is a genuine occupational requirement that it be filled by an Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander person as permitted and arguable under Sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officer provides advice to the Queensland Drug and Alcohol Court (QDAC) team on specific cultural and management issues, the development of culturally appropriate programs, services and practices that impact upon the management of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants on QDAC and other court programs.
The role also involves provision of guidance and support, where appropriate, to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander defendants and participants, both in community and custodial settings engaged with both QDAC and the Court Link program.

TARGETED VACANCY
This role is designated as Identified. Under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be an Aboriginal person and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
An Aboriginal person and/or Torres Strait Islander person is one who identifies as an Aboriginal person and/or Torres Strait Islander person and either:
• Is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; or
• Is accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which they live.
Applicants may have to provide confirmation of their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage. Requesting proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage from applicants helps to make sure that this intention is honoured. This may include a signed statutory declaration by the person.
• Work as an active member of the Specialist Courts and Referral Support Services team to enhance QDAC and other Specialist Courts and Programs, including providing advice on policies, procedures and programs relevant to First Nations people to create awareness and build the capacity of the court staff.
• Liaise with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to provide information about the purpose of QDAC and Court Link to gain community support.
• Contribute to the case management of QDAC and Court Link participants by ensuring that cultural issues are addressed and that referrals to programs, treatment and other support services are culturally appropriate.
• Assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants and their families involved in QDAC.
• Contribute to and support a trauma informed workplace through knowledge of, or experience with trauma informed approaches particularly in the context of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and their families.
• Identify and maximise the use of appropriate networks, forums, peak bodies, and agencies, to establish cultural-specific stakeholders' groups to enhance and contribute to the case management of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander QDAC participants.
• Uses professional boundaries and self-care strategies as well as proactively engaging in supervision and reflective practice.
• Maintain accurate records in a computerised database for QDAC including file noting, recording case plans and progress, cultural assessments, and court suitability assessments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants and defendants.
