The Opportunity:
Bring legacy to life. For the future of Queensland and the world. As our Principal Technician, you'll work directly with the Queensland forest and forest products industry to deliver applied research outcomes that address challenges in advanced timber processing and validate wood product properties for use in construction. This is your opportunity to lead cutting-edge research, manage state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, and contribute to the growth of a sustainable and innovative industry.

In this role, you will:
Plan, lead, manage, and conduct non-destructive and destructive timber product testing for adhesion and product performance research to international standards.
Review, collate, and analyse research data with a high level of scientific accuracy and integrity, preparing results and technical information for stakeholders. Manage laboratory equipment and systems to ensure efficient research processes and project progression.
Work independently or as part of a team to oversee technical and operational staff, ensuring effective collaboration and delivery of project outcomes.
Partner with industry stakeholders to address challenges and support the growing demand for sustainable wood products locally and internationally.

What we are looking for:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced professional with a passion for innovation and sustainability in the forestry and timber industry.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
A Diploma in applied science, forestry, engineering, or equivalent qualifications/experience in a relevant field.
A current ‘C' class driver's licence.
Demonstrated experience in timber product testing, including adhesion and product performance research, with a strong understanding of international standards.
Proven ability to manage laboratory equipment and systems, ensuring efficient and  effective research operations. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to review and interpret complex research data and present findings with scientific accuracy.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with industry stakeholders and lead a team of technical and operational staff.
A proactive and independent approach to work, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
